Millie the Millipede, by Rebecca Elliott is a wonderful colourful book ideal for young children who are exploring the world of colour. Millie takes the children through each season of the year; showing how colour can be mixed and also educating them on the colour changes that occur in nature.
This book inspired me to take my young nephew for a woodland walk and gather, leaves and spring wildflowers. After taking time to actually look at the aray of colours in nature, we took our natural materials home to make a caterpilar collage. We used coloured paints, threads and the wildflowers and leaves that we had gathered to produce a spontanious and colourful caterpillar collage with our hand and foot prints also.

Uplifting Yellow

Such a joy to see a bank of golden yellow crocuses yesterday, lifting their heads up boldly to face the winter sunshine. After the grey wet days of winter, we find ourselves eagerly seeking out the bright golden yellows and oranges to lift our spirits.

Spring will soon be here and with it an abundance of uplifting yellow flowers. The daffodils are already in bud in my garden following on swiftly after the delicate winter snowdrops. I've even noticed some wild yellow primroses peeking out from amongst their leaves; braving the cold frosty mornings!

Enjoy and savour these wonderful uplifting yellow flowers heralding the coming of spring.

Banish Those Grey-Sky Blues ..............vibrant palettes of colour are hitting the designer catwalks as Spring 2008 collections are launched, its a delight to see a bombardment of colour in stark contrast to the grey winter skies of late.

Just as I notice the spring flower tops in my garden eager to burst into bloom, fashion magazines are ablaze with a myriad of colour promises.

We can look forward to colours such as like ‘citrus yellow’, ‘berry crush’ and ‘pixie green’ along with vibrant magenta and perfect pinks.

Whether you are a fashionista or not take this colour wave to heart and brighten up your day (and others) by wearing a touch of colour.

In my local garden centre this evening I was beautifully bombarded with an array of colour at every turn, christmas lights, sparkly tree decorations, candles, fresh flowers, brightly coloured plants gloriously wrapped with colourful ribbons ready to go and presents wrapped with extra special glittery packaging, finished with gold and silver ties.A very happy place to be.I was in my element greeting each person I passed with a warm wide smile that was readily returned. Ohhh glorious colour! Its far too difficult to feel downhearted for long when surrounded with such beauty.

Winter blues

Autumn/winter is the time of the year when historically we think about and in some cases experience the winter blues.
During this time when the natural light is 'dimmed' and 'less' the most auspicious times for getting outside daily to benefit from the natural daylight is between 10am and 2pm.
Spending an hour outside daily between these times will go some way to relieving the winter blues if not alleviating them all together.

Colour Dreaming

Do you dream in colour? You may or may not be aware of it, but most dreams occur in colour, as colour is such an integral part of seeing we often take for granted its presence. If you are more aware of colour when awake you'll be more prone to notice the colours that you experience when asleep. Take note of the colours that you experience in your dream state ... what are they? Where or on what do they appear?
Colours within dreams often have a significant message for us, what do your colourful dreams say to you?

Nature Nurtures the Soul

Nature inspires us to look beyond the busy hustle and bustle of our everyday lives it brings us back to our centre and nurtures the soul.

A recent visit to the sea brought home to us the beauty and wonderful palette of colours that surround and enhance natural landscapes. The colours of nature are pure and vibrant, stimulating our senses and lifting our spirits above and beyond the mundane.

The sunlight of the late afternoon skimming the rugged coastline, illuminating and lifting the array of lush green grass that cover the hillsides. The dark green patchwork of grass coupled with the fresh and vibrant apple green tones give a feeling that ushes in an energy of strength and renewal.

The glistening turquoise waters reveal deep aquamarine, indigo and jade green which reflect the clear sky blue canvas that meets the ocean. The cooling colours of the ocean and sky calm the entire body, clear the mind and create an inner space that allows us to express ourselves and communicate clearly. Cobwebs are brushed away, revealing a still and peaceful place to contemplate and just be.

Barefoot on the warm sand, the rough and smooth textures beneath our feet bring us back to the here and now. Circular shells buried in the sand remind us of the cycle of life, the pearlised rainbow spectrum within a shell reflect back to us the multitude of opportunities that are at our fingertips.
