"Can the understanding of colour meaning help us when we are crafting? Of course it can. It is a two way process, as we work with colour so we interact with its properties, benefitting ourselves as we create and others when complete." June McLeod
Colour has a major impact on our lives. Yet it is so often taken for granted.
Sayings like feeling blue, in the pink, green with envy and seeing red are just some of those used relating to our moods. We use them in everyday speech, yet probably never stop to think about their origins.
Such is the power of colour that it can heighten our passions and emotions, or pacify and calm us. It can lift our spirits, enhance our confidence and self-esteem - even help us to release our fears.
Colour can bring balance and harmony back into our lives at a time of crisis or stress. Restore order and provide us with the will to go on, when all is collapsing around us.
It can provide us with a new sense of purpose, enhance our creativity, as well as open us up to new ideas and aspirations. All this can be achieved through the incredible power of colour, and much more.
As we absorb colour, whether visually or through touch, as with stitching, knitting and crafting, or via any of our other senses, our bodies automatically send this colour to the appropriate centre.
For example, positive emotions will top up and rebalance the centre, whereas negative emotions are likely to create an imbalance. Sometimes we may well need additional assistance, from a qualified colour specialist, when we are greatly out of balance or our centres have closed down. However, there is much each of us can do to improve our own well-being by working with colour at home. The colours we wear, and surround ourselves with, all play a major part in our lives.
We recommend the best selling book Colours of the Soul by June McLeod for further information and to help transform your life through colour.
Cross Stitch is a wonderful and enjoyable way to work with colour. By absorbing the colours as we sew, and then, whenever we need a top up of the colour - to balance or restore ourselves, we have only to sit quietly in front of our cross stitch pattern.
Letting our gaze fall on the appropriate colour for our needs, whilst breathing slowly and deeply, as we still our minds and become totally lost in the moment. Then we are able to absorb the powerful and profound qualities of the colour.
All the cross stitch designs have been created in such a way as to provide the maximum effect of each colour, as well as being something beautiful and enjoyable to sew and treasure.
The more we work with colour, understanding its profound and transformative qualities the greater the benefit we will receive. This, in turn, will help us work towards maintaining balance and harmony in our hectic lives.
